Realistic stories and characters have taken precedence over larger than life and meaningless heroic roles, says actor Vicky Singh. Vicky, who is part of the show Dahej Dassi, says that his show is centred around the realistic practice of dowry and showcases the reality in a unique way.
“I believe it’s very relatable and connecting. Our objective is very clear and loud. Our show Dahej Dasi is based on a true incident. We want people to be aware about the evil practice of dowry. Even today, there are many states in India where dowry is taken in the name of marriage, and along with dowry money, Dahej Dasi will also come. But we are making sure to not judge at all. We are creating a scenario through the show where the audience will come to see how the lives of these girls are ruined because of the selfishness of the family,” he says.
He adds that now artists don’t just want to play heroic roles and would rather go for meaningful roles. “The film industry has changed. The way they work now is different from the way they used to operate earlier. Now, people like to watch realistic cinema and realistic incidents so that they can relate and connect. People have shifted to OTT because audiences are very specific about what to see or not. The chapter of so called heroism is over now and one of the best examples is the film 12th Fail. This film is based on a real incident and the character Manoj Kumar Sharma who becomes an IPS officer, looking at his struggles, victory and success you feel as if he is one of us. If he can do it then we can too. That’s the beauty of cinema these days,” he says.
Meanwhile, Vicky says that he loves working with producers Ravindra Gautam and Raghuvir Shekhawat. “Do Dooni Chaar Production is like my home. This production has given me a lot of love, respect, and very good work. Talking about Raghuvir Shekhawat Sir and Ravindra Gautam Sir, both of them, are my mentors. They have always given me the opportunity to play good characters. Ravindra sir is a great director and producer. He has directed many big shows and web series. Raghuvir sir has written many big shows. He is a great writer and producer. Both of them are very wonderful people and nice human beings. God bless them.”
Ask him what are his expectations from the show, and he says, “I hope, through this show Dahej Dasi we reach those states where even today dowry and dowry maid are considered. We want to reach out to them through our show where people should realize that it is not just to ruin the life of any girl in the name of rituals, traditions customs. So now, the time has come that we should break all those rusty customs and move forward with new thinking through our show Dahej Dasi. We are not saying, will bring change to everyone. But yes, some people will change through our show and their changes will change other’s mindsets. Then, the purpose of creating this show will be fulfilled.”
