Actress Nazia, who is out with her new film Tipppsy, says that people in India really need to work on their acceptance of the LGBTQ community. She adds that people seem to be very weary of the community, and don’t want any interaction.
“I believe families fear the reaction of their immediate surroundings, society and systems could be hostile to their children, I believe the rejection comes out of the need to protect their children, after all a parent will only want what’s best for their children. Each person has the right and freedom to live their life with whichever orientation they identify themselves with. And society should remove the prejudices that can shackle such individuals,” she says.
She adds, “I think reaching out to members of their respective communities and groups that have been established to help individuals going through such mental traumas is the best way to go about it. And to remember, you are not alone.”
She says that it is very important for the people of the lGBTQ community to come out of the closet. “I don’t believe it will help to live in the closet, it’s equivalent to living your life confined within walls. One must seek the support which will help them to live their lives and be happy and better for it,” she says.
