Bigg Boss 19: Amaal Mallik Opens Up on Family Rift and Depression

Singer-composer Amaal Mallik made an emotional revelation on the very first day of Bigg Boss 19, as he opened up about his family issues, a difficult breakup, and his battle with depression.

During a candid conversation with co-contestant Zeishan Quadri, Amaal spoke about the time when he had posted on social media about cutting ties with his family. The post had gone viral and created a storm of speculations.

Recalling that phase, Amaal shared,

“Maine ek post daali thi jo internet pe viral ho gayi. Main depression mein tha. Maine apne family se ties cut off kar diye the. Shayad issliye inhone yahan bula liya. Bahut news ho gayi thi. Mujhe identity crisis mehsoos hone laga tha.”

(“I had put up a post that went viral. I was in depression and had cut off ties with my family. Maybe that’s why they called me here. It became big news, and I began to feel an identity crisis.”)

The singer further added that while he has always considered his younger brother Armaan Mallik like a son, he often felt unacknowledged.

“Gaane main bana raha tha, but koi mujhe poochta nahi tha. Armaan ne kabhi mujhe yeh mehsoos nahi karvaya ki woh star hai aur main nahi.”

Amaal also spoke about the breaking point, which came after a heated argument with his mother.

“Us din mummy se badi argument ho gayi thi. Maine post daal diya ki mera koi relation nahi hai. Mere shabd mere apne hain, par uske wajah se papa ko sunna pada, Armaan ke saath log ladne lage, aur mummy ki upbringing pe sawaal uthne lage. Maine gusse mein bola ki aap teeno apna surname badal lo, ya main badal leta hu. Us din ek tsunami phat gaya.”

He revealed that a series of personal struggles—including the loss of his pet dog and a painful breakup—triggered his breakdown, which eventually spilled onto social media.

Earlier this year, Amaal had indeed shared a now-deleted post about distancing himself from his family, while clarifying that he remained cordial with Armaan. Following the incident, he also issued a statement requesting media portals not to harass his family.

Apart from Amaal Mallik, the Bigg Boss 19 house this season also features Gaurav Khanna, Awez Darbar, Ashnoor Kaur, Zeishan Quadri, Nehal Chudasama, Abhishek Bajaj, Baseer Ali, Natalia Janoszek, Neelam Giri, Kunickaa Sadanand, Mridul Tiwari, Pranit More, Farrhana Bhatt, Nagma Mirajkar, and Tanya Mittal. Superstar Salman Khan has returned once again as the host of the show.
